A Weekly Meal Planner

Jan 24, 2013
"What's for dinner??"

If you get asked this question a lot, or if you just want to get more organized, it may be time to start planning out meals so everyone always knows what's on the menu!

I was experimenting on my computer the other night and came up with this simple, but functional weekly meal planner:

You can use it to plan out breakfast, lunch, and dinner for all seven days of the week. Under each day you can list all the ingredients you need to make the meals, and that way you know exactly what you need to buy at the grocery store. This may even help you to save money!

This printable is FREE (yay!) and to top it off, I've also made it editable. This means that if you don't feel like writing, you can open up this meal planner on your computer, Apple or Android smartphone or tablet, and just type in the fields.

How to Use Editable Printables on Your Computer:

In case you're wondering how the editable aspect of it works, here is a quick tutorial.

1) First make sure you have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed on your computer. This is what allows you to open up PDF files and you most likely already have it installed on your computer. If you don't, click here to download it.

2) Open up the Weekly Meal Planner and on the top right you will see where it says 'Highlight Existing Fields.' If you click on that it will highlight (light blue) all the places on the document where you can type. You can see what it looks like below from a screenshot I took.

3) The next step is to simply start typing! Don't worry if the text looks like it won't fit in the space, as the text will automatically become smaller to fit.

4) When you're done filling in the meal planner, click the 'Highlight Existing Fields' to remove the blue highlight and this is a sample of what you'll see:

5) Now you can either save and print the document or simply leave it on your computer for your personal reference.

If you want to see how this works on a tablet such as an iPad, read on. If not you can skip this part and just go ahead and download your printable!

How to Use Editable Printables on Your Tablet:

My tablet is an iPad Mini so you'll see screenshots of that in this tutorial, but it works pretty much the same way on an Android tablet.

1) If you don't already have it, download the free Adobe Reader app from the app store.

2) After clicking the download link below, the file will pop up. On the top right you'll see a button that says, 'Open in Adobe Reader.'

3) Once the PDF is open in Adobe Reader, you will again see the blue highlighted fields.

4) Now you can just start typing! When you're done with the file you can close the Adobe Reader app and your edited PDF will just live there until you delete it.

Using this Weekly Meal Planner on a small tablet is a portable way to bring it with you when you go shopping.

If this all seems too complicated to do, simply open up the PDF, print, and write on it.

Hope you find this useful and please do comment to let me know what you think of this printable, or if you have any suggestions for improvements.

In the meantime, please feel free to share this Weekly Meal Planner by tweeting, liking, or pinning it. Enjoy!
